The backstory.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A VISION, DEADLINES AND VERY LITTLE SLEEP.
The Guerrilla Story goes a little something like this.
Our co-founders Kerrie Allen and Christian Oshiro met in 2013 while studying Interior Design as “mature-aged-but-not-so-old” students with some solid life experience behind them.
In amongst those foggy, sleep-deprived, coffee driven years, bouncing from deadline to deadline we still managed to identify that educational institutions couldn’t do it all. It was impossible to provide all the skills, training and mentoring needed for graduates to take that leap confidently out into the “big wide world”.
We officially launched in 2015 and started delivering internships, workshops and mentoring. It very quickly became glaringly obvious that the need to upskill didn’t end at graduate level. There were employees, teachers, small business owners and career-changers who had the need and desire to learn more.
And like everything in life, we evolved. We secured the generous support of Finbar Property Group and Winc and with that, the hope of having our own studio became a reality.
We have run hundreds of workshops and events and have met so many epic humans along the way. Social and mingle events were added to the calendar to build a connected community.
Since 2020 (and the dreaded C-Word) we’ve faced a new set of challenges, with education environments and in-person events completely flipped on their head. Christian moved on to focus on a community sports-based initiative. But, we aren’t called Guerrilla for nothing, so we reassessed and evolved (again).
When reflecting on our impact it was clear that our strength is gathering people to share stories, knowledge and experience. When people are inspired and connected, anything is possible.
Guerrilla 2.0 is currently in development. Stay tuned.
A walk down memory lane.
